Loading judged best film at JNU film fest in Delhi

The film focuses on the negative impact of video games on children and was inspired by a report by the American Psychological Congress in 2005 on the phenomenon

Loading, directed by Indian filmmaker Raj Divakaran, was judged one of the best films at the inaugural short and documentary film festival organised by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi. Four other films were also selected as best films.

Loading deals with the negative impact of video games on children. Divakaran, who works as creative director at Raj Television in the United Kingdom, says the film’s story line was inspired by a report by the American Psychological Congress in 2005. “The report says that children who are exposed to video games are prone to violence. The film is a study on the impact of such games on children’s psyche,” he says. Roshan Prasannan was the film’s cameraman and Ashok and Rajesh Thanu, the editors.

Loading has also been included in the ‘touring festival’ category to be screened at select campuses across India.

The festival, held from April 14-16, 2006, was organised by JNU in association with Max Mueller Bhavan to provide a platform for up-and-coming filmmakers and students to interact with prominent film personalities and critics.

The festival received as many as 100 entries; films from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Spain were also screened.
