Disability

The Rehabilitation Council of India is the apex body that regulates training in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. Every year, it publishes a list of approved institutions, along with courses offered. All institutions that wish to conduct rehabilitation training programmes have to apply to the RCI for recognition. There are nearly 200 institutions that have been recognised by the RCI to offer courses in various aspects of disability.

Brief details: Anybody with a Bachelor's degree in any discipline, with a minimum average of 40% marks can apply for this six-month full-time course. A. Master in Disability Rehabilitation Administration (MDRA) 2008-10
1. Candidate should have a Bachelor Degree in Disability Rehabilitation field recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India and/ or Medical Council of India and /or Paramedical Professional relating to rehabilitation (Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy/ Nursery/ Laboratory Technology) with a minimum of 50% marks.

2. Masters Degree from a Recognized University in the field of Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology, Social Wor, Rehabilitation Social Work, Business Management with a minimum of 50% marks

B. Diploma in Special Education (MR)
A two year course. Minimum educational qualification for admission to the course will be successful completion of plus two or equivalent examination with 50% marks

C. Masters in Disability Studies
A two year course. Minimum educational requirement for admission to this course is MBBS, BUMS, BAMS, Naturopathy, BHMS, BMR, BRS (MR), BRT, BOT, BPT, B.Sc. (HLS), PGDEI, Masters in Child Development & M.Phil Psychology.

Brief details: This is a four-year programme, admission for which is made on the basis of merit in the joint entrance examination and eligibility for which is 10+2. Mobility India

Courses: 1. Training of Managers in Community-Based Rehabilitation Programmes

Brief details: This is a 14-day programme intended for project managers of organisations involved in developing Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programmes in low-income countries. The Rehabilitation, Research and Training Centre of Mobility India, completed in 2002, also provides certified courses in orthoses and prostheses to individuals.

2. Bachelor Programme in Prsothetics and Orthotics 4 years and six months of internship.

Eligibility: 10+2 from recognized Central/State board or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or mathematics (PCB or M) with 50% aggregate marks for general merit students and 40% in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates. Preference will be given to person with disability especially women with disability.
